How To Improve Your Golf Game?

.

Improving Your Golf Game

What I'm going to address is 'hitting' the ball.
Golf is a game of concentration, I'd say 90% concentration and 10% luck, the bounce of the ball so to speak.
First and foremost in playing the game of golf is 'hitting' the ball!
NOT hitting the ball correctly/squarely is the bane (problem) most of us have. Once you can consistently hit the ball squarely then making sure that your club is lined-up correctly will solve most of the problems most people have. One main reason for taking your eye off the ball is wanting, consciously or unconsciously, to see were it's going to go or to 'guide' it, by sight, to where you want it to go ... And all of this takes place in a fraction of a second. And I'm sure that if you play the game then you've experienced this by 'topping' the ball, hitting the dirt 'in front of the ball', 'slicing' or 'hooking' the ball ... just to name a few. All caused by the loss of concentration.
So here is something to try and something to practice: First off, get two cups or drinking glasses. Fill one partially with water, no more then 1/3 full; the other leave empty.
Now, hold the glass with water up slightly higher then the empty glass and then, consciously, slowly pour the water into the empty glass.

Question: Were you looking at the glass the water was being poured into? The glass the water was being poured out of? Or, at both while you were pouring?

Most people tend to focus on the glass that the water is being poured into or both. And this is what's happening when most of us endeavor to hit that golf ball. We're concentrating on the wrong area. Call it 'human nature'.

Try repeating the task only this time concentrate on the glass in which the water is being poured out of.
Note: Before you begin pouring you've already mentally established where the empty glass is and where you should hold the other glass but did you find yourself do a quick look at where the water was going when it started flowing ... just to make sure? This like hitting the golf ball and that one instant before the club head hits the ball our head wants to follow the club head, which is what we end up doing, and we move the club ... even ever so slightly is all it takes to throw your swing off.

So, let's break ourselves of this habit by honing our concentration. We'll do this by practicing pouring the water.
First, begin by slowly pouring the water again but this time make a committed effort to only look at the water coming off the lip the the glass that you're pouring from. After you've got that down-pat, concentrating solely on the water as it's coming off the lip of the glass that you're pouring from then begin practicing slowing the pour down ... all the while concentrating on the lip of the glass where the water is flowing over.
Now, practice slowing the flow down until you're able to stream the water out one drop at a time. Repeat this until you can pour out one drop at a time without much thinking about it.

You're ready for the golf course. When you go to hit the ball concentrate on it and in your minds-eye see the lip of the glass and you're pouring out the water one drop at a time. Hold that thought, image until the ball is gone.
You'll find that squarely hitting the ball comes a lot easier. You'll be able to feel it too ... it'll feel right!
Now make sure that your club head is positioned right before you begin your swing. Remember that the ball is just going to go where you tell it to.

Get Out There and Enjoy The Game!

-Testimonial-

"I've paid a lot of money on lessons, good and bad but none could get me passed my head jerk before hitting the ball which was my main problem, so I found out. I want to tell you your little concentration exercise really helped! I'm acutally hitting the ball square and my shots show it. My game is like day and night. Thanks for the great exercise!"
