The Seven Deadly Sins and Their Definitions

    ENVY is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
It is insatiable (can't be filled). It is a desire/resentment that another person has something the envious one perceives his/herself to be lacking and wishes the other person to be deprived of it; a painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage.

    SLOTH/LAZINESS is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
It's the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts; it's laziness and indifference; the being disinclined to activity or exertion, not energetic or vigorous.

    GLUTTONY is an inordinate (not normal) desire to consume more than that which one requires.
It's the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste; excess in eating (leading to obesity) and drinking (leading to drunkeness).

    WRATH/ANGER is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury; it is also known as Wrath.
It is inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger; feelings of anger that can manifest in different ways, which include impatience, revenge, vigilantism, strong vengeful anger or indignation.




    PRIDE is an excessive belief in one's own abilities, arrogance, an over-high opinion of oneself. Pride is also known as Vanity.
It is a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others and excessive love of self. It is the quality or state of being proud; inordinate self esteem.
It has been called the sin from which all others arise.

    LUST is an enormous craving for the pleasures of the body.
IT is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature; to have an intense desire or need.

    COVETOUSNESS is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Greed.
It is also known as avarice or covetousness; like lust and gluttony it is a sin of excess. It is excessive or reprehensible acquisitiveness (acquiring/hoarding).
